ABSTRACT
This talk will provide an update on activity in chemical process safety in the United States.
In the regulatory area, the final requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Risk Management Plan (RMP) are now in effect. A controversy has erupted related to public disclosure of the worst case scenario calculations. The latest activity of the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board will also be presented.
In the technical area, the latest activity of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE) Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) will be presented. This includes new research and book publishing endeavors.
Finally, the latest activity of SACHE (Safety and Chemical Engineering Education) will be presented. SACHE is a national effort under CCPS to improve the presentation of health and safety content in undergraduate chemical engineering education. Recent SACHE activity includes instructional module development and faculty workshops.
